PISTOL PURCHASE BASIC INFORMATION

You may NOT purchase a pistol or revolver unless you obtain a CT pistol/revolver permit. If you currently own a pistol or revolver, you may keep it in your home but may not transport it anywhere else; transportation requires a CT Permit.

To obtain a CT permit you are required to furnish the issuing authority with a letter or certificate attesting that you have completed a course in the Safety and Use of Pistols and Revolvers, signed by a pistol or revolver instructor certified by the: NRA or DEP. The Outpost does offer such a course for $110 per person. We keep our classes small; with no more than five students per class. Included in the course is the reference book, ammunition, live firing, eye protection, ear protection and testing. Please stop by the shop to check dates and register for your class.

Once your certificate of training is received, you go to your local Law Enforcement Officer for your application and processing (up to eight weeks). A temporary permit is then issued. You can now contact the DPS/State Police to obtain a permanent permit.

This website - www.ct.gov has much more official information. We try to stay current, but the state makes the rules. Total cost, as of early 2010, runs about $300 per person, including the safety course.

LONG GUN (RIFLE OR SHOTGUN) PURCHASE

With a pistol permit or a hunting license you may purchase a long gun and take it home the same day. Without the above, you may purchase a long gun if you are at least 18 years old. 14 day wait applies.
